Find a Path Forward with EMDR
The effects of past experiences may show up in many ways in your life, taking the form of depression, anxiety disorders, persistent stress, emotional overwhelm, or patterns that feel difficult to break. You might feel stuck, uncertain about how to move forward, or frustrated that previous attempts at therapy haven’t led to lasting change.
EMDR therapy aims to offer a structured way to process adverse experiences and events, potentially helping to reduce their hold on your thoughts and emotions. If you have struggled with the traditional model of therapy or are looking for an evidence-based approach that facilitates meaningful change, EMDR may be the right fit for you.
Serving individuals throughout South Australia, our EMDR therapy is also accessible through tailored online psychology services for those unable to attend in person.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
What is EMDR Therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic approach that uses bilateral stimulation (in the form of eye movements, sounds, or body tapping) in an effort to activate the brain’s natural healing capacity. Adverse experiences tend to impact our wellbeing and psychological health because of what we believe the event says about us or the world we live in. EMDR aims to enable us to process these past events and arrive at more adaptive conclusions about what those events actually mean about us.
Research in neuroplasticity demonstrates that our brain has the ability to change, create new neural pathways, and produce new neurons. Because the brain has this ability to change, we have the ability to change our way of thinking and potentially improve our mood.
EMDR utilises our brains’ neuroplasticity to reorganise itself by forming new neural connections, which allows the brain to compensate for injury and adjust to new situations.

How May EMDR Help Me?
EMDR focuses on alleviating the psychological and physical impacts of challenging life experiences. It’s not limited to trauma; it may also support growth in areas like relationships, social engagement, and work performance. EMDR may be useful in addressing a wide range of psychological conditions, including depression, PTSD, OCD, anxiety, panic, phobias, addiction, eating disorders, dissociative disorders, and grief. It may also help with symptoms such as hyper-vigilance, intrusive memories, and overwhelming feelings of guilt, anger, shame, or hopelessness.
EMDR may be beneficial for clients dealing with single-incident traumatic events, commonly called ‘big T’ trauma (such as a severe car accident, assault, or natural disaster). It may also support those who have experienced ongoing, subtler forms of trauma, known as ‘little t’ traumas– including chronic stress from interpersonal conflict, attachment difficulties, neglect, or financial hardship. One of the most underestimated aspects of ‘little t’ traumas is how they accumulate over time. When compounded, these smaller stressors may overwhelm the nervous system and impact emotional health just as significantly as ‘big T’ trauma.
An increasing body of research supports the effectiveness of EMDR therapy in helping people address emotional trauma, adverse life experiences, negative thoughts and emotions, trauma-related imagery, and somatic complaints.

Our EMDR Program
The conventional approach to therapy doesn’t work for everyone.
Standard psychological therapy involves 50-minute sessions, typically held fortnightly or monthly. This process often takes time, and it may be a while before you notice meaningful progress. Addressing smaller issues or crises that arise between sessions may also divert attention from your primary therapy goals, slowing overall progress.
To help you stay focused and potentially reach your goals faster, we now offer Bloom EMDR Intensives– an accelerated therapy model. The program starts with a month of in-depth client preparation, followed by an intensive schedule of two-hour sessions, three times per week. This approach is comparable to about 11 traditional therapy sessions, usually spread over five to 11 months.
By taking this intensive approach, we have an opportunity to work through the eight phases of EMDR treatment and target the root of an issue. This intentional approach helps to create efficiency in time and energy input, leading to more focused progress and improved well-being.
Bloom Psychology & Yoga Therapy
Hi, I’m Sarah. I’m a clinical psychologist, accredited EMDR therapist, and certified yoga teacher and therapist. Over the past 20 years, I’ve gained extensive experience working with diverse clients, psychological conditions and settings. I’m proud to be a full member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and The EMDR Association of Australia (EMDRAA).
My practice is focused on EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing) therapy, after observing the beneficial impact it offered many of my clients. I have also undertaken advanced training in a number of psychological modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness and neuropsychological-based therapies, which I draw on to support the EMDR approach. I now work exclusively with EMDR Intensive therapy (consisting of two-hour sessions scheduled close together), allowing for maximum focus on addressing the core issues behind your mental health concerns, with less distraction from the ups and downs of daily life.
Helping people overcome psychological challenges and find greater peace in their lives is my passion. I strive to share practical tools, techniques, and concepts that support lasting well-being.
